For everyday use, a lever corkscrew like the Pulltap's from Pulltex is enough. For a lasting piece or a gift, a Laguiole waiter's corkscrew offers a wood, horn or bone handle. For an old wine with a fragile cork, choose a two-prong model instead.
Laguiole refers to a type of knife and a French cutlery tradition, not a single brand. Several houses make them, and we carry three: Fontenille Pataud, Château Laguiole and Forge de Laguiole. The full selection is also on the authentic Laguiole page.
Fontenille Pataud is a Thiers house founded in 1929, with a wide range of Magnum waiter's corkscrews. Château Laguiole, created in 1993, made the sommelier knife the heart of its house. Forge de Laguiole makes its pieces in the village of Laguiole, in Aveyron.
For a dry or fragile cork, The Durand pairs a helical worm with an Ah-So style two-prong puller. It is designed for old cork stoppers, and is not suitable for stoppers that are not cork. L'Atelier du Vin also offers a two-prong model.
